(LOS ANGELES) - New R&B sensation Erykah Badu
collected a record five nominations to lead the field for the
1997 Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. Badu's
Baduizm was nominated for best R&B/soul album, solo
category, while her single "On & On" nabbed three nominations
including R&B/soul song of the year. Badu's second single,
"Next Lifetime," was nominated for best music video. She was also
mentioned for best R&B/soul or rap new artist. Badu will also
serve as co-host of the affair with Chaka Khan and
Bill Bellamy. The two-hour primetime special will
be televised Sept. 5. Janet Jackson will be
honored with the Lena Horne Award for outstanding
career achievement, and Queen Latifah will receive
the Aretha Franklin Award as entertainer of the
year. Toni Braxton and Motown
trio 702 received three nominations each.
