Iglesias loses mole, Studdard gets soul

ENRIQUE IGLESIAS has had surgery to remove his famous mole after a doctor told him it could lead to cancer . . . RUBEN STUDDARD will release his debut album, Soulful, November 11th. American Idol runner-up CLAY AIKEN drops his still-untitled debut October 14th . . . Death Row Records head SUGE KNIGHT, currently in prison on a parole violation, has been sued by a law firm for failing to pay over $100,000 in fees . . . COLIN FARRELL recorded a cover of "I Fought the Law," popularized by the BOBBY FULLER FOUR and the CLASH, for the soundtrack to his upcoming move "Intermission." Farrell is also up for the role of rocker OZZY OSBOURNE in a upcoming biopic. AEROSMITH will headline the NFL's September 4th kickoff party on the Mall in Washington, D.C. . . . TONY JACKSON, bassist for Sixties Merseybeat combo the SEARCHERS, died Monday in England of liver disease; he was sixty-three . . . Murder Inc. Records head IRV GOTTI missed a Tuesday court appearance in Oakland, California, on drug charges, and forfeited $20,000 bail . . . NICK CAVE and the BAD SEEDS' first DVD, God Is in the House, features studio and concert footage, including cameos by JARVIS COCKER and JASON DONOVAN, and will be released August 26th . . . A new music high school in the Bronx will be named for Celia Cruz, the late Queen of Salsa. NELLY has launched his own energy drink, Pimp Juice -- a mix of apple juice, vitamins and supplements named after a song from Nellyville -- which he says "mixes perfectly with numerous vodkas" . . . ANDREW W.K. will personally call the first 250 people to pre-order his upcoming album, The Wolf, on his Web site or Amazon.com . . . MOBY will release a self-directed DVD and CD package that features B Sides from 18 . . . VANESSA CARLTON, HOOTIE & the BLOWFISH, EMMYLOU HARRIS, DANIEL LANOIS and BILLY BOB THORNTON are among the artists added this year's Farm Aid, scheduled for September 7th in Columbus, Ohio . . . Murder Inc. label head IRV GOTTI was arrested at an R. Kelly concert in Oakland last week for possession of ecstacy . . . SHERYL CROW will release a greatest hits record in October that features a cover of CAT STEVENS' "The First Cut Is the Deepest."

BEYONCE and METALLICA are newly confirmed to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards August 28th in New York City . . . Romeo!, the new show starring MASTER P and his son LIL' ROMEO, debuts on Nickelodeon September 13th at 8:30 p.m. . . . JEWEL will make guest appearances in three episodes of the NBC legal drama Lyon's Den, starrin ROB LOWE, this fall . . . RICKY MARTIN and KELLY CLARKSON will perform at the Latin Grammy Awards, September 3rd in Miami . . . FUEL hit the road in October to support their September 23rd release Natural Selection . . . THE CURE, DURAN DURAN, VIOLENT FEMMES, INTERPOL, SOFT CELL and FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE are among the artists set for this year's KROQ Inland Invasion concert, set for September 20th in Devore, California . . . Omaha's Saddle Creek Records will release a seven-LP vinyl BRIGHT EYES box set September 9th.

LEANN RIMES, THIRD EYE BLIND, GEORGE CLINTON and the rest of the Ben and Jerry's One World One Heart Festival, scheduled for this weekend in upstate New York, is cancelled. The event, which moved once, reportedly sold only around 1,000 of its 30,000 tickets . . . 50 CENT, MARILYN MANSON, STAIND and LUDACRIS lead the lineup for this year's Voodoo Music fest, scheduled for New Orleans from October 31st to November 2nd. Also on the bill are CYPRESS HILL, the ROOTS, PAUL OAKENFOLD, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, the DONNAS, GOV'T MULE and ROBERT RANDOLPH . . . KINGS OF LEON kick off their first headlining tour, to support Youth and Young Manhood, on September 4th in Philadelphia . . . MARC ANTHONY's wife gave birth to a baby boy over the weekend, the couple's second son together.

ALICE COOPER will tour this fall starting on September 27th in Mississippi to support his upcoming album The Eyes of Alice Cooper . . . HOWIE DAY will release his second album, Stop All the World Now, on October 7th . . . JOE SATRIANI, STEVE VAI and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN will head out on another G3 tour, starting October 9th . . . The SEA AND CAKE kick off a thirteen-date tour on September 18th in Indianapolis . . . SEVENDUST will release their fourth album, Seasons, on October 7th . . . B.B. KING will open a new club bearing his name in Nashville on August 22nd. The blues legend will perform there on September 29th and 30th to celebrate his seventy-eighth birthday . . . XZIBIT will bring back his Rhyme Night hip-hop talent showcase on September 6th in Hollywood.

JEWEL will star in the independent film Wave, which she is also co-producing . . . Twenty of the Beatles' Ed Sullivan Show performances from 1964 and 1965 will be collected in a new two-DVD set, out October 28th . . . MOS DEF and TALIB KWELI will give the keynote address at the Hip-Hop and Social Change conference in Chicago on October 3rd . . . Songs by JAMES TAYLOR, SHERYL CROW, BILLY JOEL and TONY BENNETT will be included on Songs From the Street, a three-CD collection of music featured on Sesame Street, to celebrate the show's thirty-fifth anniversary . . . Songs by THIRD EYE BLIND, SPOON and members of PEARL JAM will be included on Live From Nowhere Near You, due tomorrow. The set will benefit a Portland, Oregon-based homeless charity.

GWEN STEFANI's L.A.M.B. fashion line will launch a new collection of handbags this fall . . . Songwriter ED TOWNSEND, who penned MARVIN GAYE's Let's Get It On, died of heart failure in San Bernardino, California, last week; he was seventy-four . . . BEULAH and JOHN VANDERSLICE will begin a joint tour on October 3rd in Los Angeles . . . ALISON KRAUSS AND UNION STATION received thirteen International Bluegrass Music Award nominations to lead all acts. The IBMAs are set for October 2nd in Louisville, Kentucky . . . The music of legendary "Spaghetti Western" composer ENNIO MORRICONE (Once Upon a Time in the West) will be compiled in a four-CD box set, Io, due September 30th.
