Album Reviews
It's fitting that one of the final electronic releases of 2003 offers up such a rich mix electro and disco punk, the two genres that ruled dance floors this year. Compiled by International DeeJay Gigolo boss DJ Hell, from his label's catalog of releases, Compilation No. 7 plays like a dance scene yearbook. Fischerspooner's "L.A. Song" is full of swabbed-up synths, classic video-game noises and deadpanned vocals. British outfit Pink Grease offer up "Manhattan on Fire," a blast of aggressive electronics atop punky, guitar grooves. And P. Diddy's first foray into dance -- the Joey Beltram, techno-influenced screamer "Let's Get Ill" -- finally finds a home here after its debut in March in Miami. A year's worth of club sounds on two discs.
