Duran Duran throw-ing down with Timbaland? Creamed jeans are made of this! The New Wave legends just became eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (cough) and have a cracking new album to celebrate the latest stage of their artistic journey (rasp). Simon Le Bon, John Taylor and Nick Rhodes sound refreshed from their excellent gig at Live Earth, where they saved the planet with "Girls on Film." They're also contempo enough to sing about sleazy Craigslist sex in "Skin Divers," meeting some lucky lady with "Google-dirty fingers." As for the music, Timbaland has a history of dumbing it down when rock stars come calling, as in his ill-fated Beck team-up on "Diamond Dogs." But he gives the Fab Five a sleek funk track on "Nite-Runner," which could have been a leftover from FutureSex/LoveSounds. Justin Timberlake even arrives to gloss it up — as far as Duran Duran are concerned, the union of the Timber-Snake is on the rise. Tim's other two tracks, "Skin Divers" and "Zoom In," are classic Durannie funk a la "Notorious." The rest, produced by Tim protege Nate "Danja" Hills (plus the band), has the skin-trade title track and another Timberlake collabo, "Falling Down." JT and DD sound in sync — dirty pop boys have to stick together.

Duran Duran achieves the best of both culture and nature here. They deliver high art and innovation but not at the expense of a rhythm that hooks into your visceral substrate and raises your blood pressure. I prefer DDs own tracks (The Valley; Box Full O Honey ; Tricked Out) to the collaborative works but Skin Divers is a seamless work. I do think DD is overrating Falling Down and I'll never really understand who Nite Runner is supposed to appeal to. These tracks strike a juvenile chord that shows Timberlake's handprints (sound very Boy Band), but I loved the album overall. I just wish DD produced more tracks like The Valley (my new favorite). I don't understand why the album received such negative reviews by the music pundits. However the album might deviate from the ideal (and our high standard for DD), even their 3rd or 4th best track is better than anything else I hear on the billboard charts.

I really didn't expect anything from these guys but I have to say I'm very shocked. All the tracks are very strong and have a good beat to them. Simon sounds fresh and the band is really tight. This is one of the better CD's of 2007/8!!! If you're a fan keep your mind open and enjoy this CD!

I liked (not loved) DD in the past...this disc absolutely sucks! There's not a memorable tune on it. The first single sounds like a Madonna outtake. I give it one star because there's apparently no lower rating available. Steer clear of this one!
