Album Reviews
These Philadelphia boys debuted last year with a fine record that matched the Shins with smart, retro psych rock. This EP keeps up that sound with a slightly
more shambling delivery, mixing Sixties pop with touches of psychedelia, home-recorded messiness and whimsy. The six cuts include "Ain't It Strange," a sweet ballad complete with ooh-ahh backing vocals and a big, Pink Floyd-y coda; "California," an acoustic campfire singalong about love on the West Coast; and the narcotic "Livin' a Dream," which ends with an impressive, and possibly parodic, Beat-poet rap.
