DMX to Serve Time

Rapper DMX to serve jail sentence after appeal rejected

Posted Jan 30, 2001 12:00 AM

DMX is out fifteen days of freedom and $400. A Cheektowaga, New York judge rejected his appeal to overturn the jail sentence and fine stemming from a traffic incident last March. Following a Ruff Ryders/Cash Money performance in Buffalo, DMX was pulled over in his car by police and charged with speeding, failing to signal a lane change, driving with a suspended permit and marijuana possession.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of driving without a license and was ordered to serve fifteen days in jail and pay the $400 fine.

Within the next two weeks, DMX is expected to surrender and begin serving his fifteen-day sentence at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden, New York.
