Album Reviews
Of the current wave of French DJ/producers invading the international airwaves, Dimitri From Paris plays up the kitschy elements of his nationality the most with irresistible results. The liner notes and song titles on Sacrebleu are a jumble of Frenglish ("Une Very Stylish Fille") and poke fun at all the clichés associated with France, while the music joyfully recycles them in a breezy mix of audio jokes, electrosamba, jazz and lush strings. Whether winking at the original French easylistening icon, Claudine Longet, in a cover of her lounge ballad "Nothing to Lose" or creating a pastiche of sixties TV action themes on "Dirty Larry," Dimitri From Paris creates a universe that is as goofily coherent as it is infectious.
