Album Reviews
There is joy in this set from September's Jazz at Lincoln Center telethon, like pianist Marcus Roberts' saucy dance through Jelly Roll Morton's "New Orleans Blues." But the emphasis is on stately anguish. Norah Jones takes tender possession of Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going to Rain Today," and New Orleans trumpeter Irvin Mayfield Jr. blows through "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" in piercing worry. His father, Irvin Sr., was missing at the time of the performance -- and was later found dead in his flooded home.
