Krall, Costello Collaborate

Jazz singer's new album due in April

Posted Dec 17, 2003 12:00 AM

Newlyweds Diana Krall and Elvis Costello have teamed up to co-write six new songs for The Girl in the Other Room, Krall's next album, due on April 27th.

Krall's seventh studio album marks the first time she's ventured away from strictly interpreting songs and tried her hand at writing. One new cut, "Abandoned Masquerade" features music by Krall and lyrics by Costello, and the other five collaborations between the couple pair Krall's music with lyrical co-writes. The twelve-track album also includes Krall's takes on Costello's "Almost Blue" and her versions of songs written by Tom Waits ("Temptation"), Joni Mitchell ("Black Krow") and Mose Allison ("Stop This World").

Krall co-produced the set -- the follow-up to 2001's The Look of Love -- with Tommy LiPuma. The singer/pianist is backed by drummers Jeff Hamilton, Peter Erskine and Terry Lyne Carrington, bassists Christian McBride and John Clayton and guitarist Anthony Wilson on the record.

Krall, 39, married Costello, 49, in London on December 6th in London.
