Album Reviews
There's no denying this crew's hair masses of it, piled, à la the late lamented Johnny Thunders, into buffalo bouffants. And with lyrics like "Frankie baby wears leather boots/She likes the Stooges and punk-rock groups," D Generation's roots are obviously showing. But these New York dolls have the guitars to back up their braggadocio; Even recycled, Mick Ronson's licks always pack a hefty wallop. And so appealing are the amphetamined "Bony Moronie" riffs and Bo Diddley beats of glam rock that this quintet's versions on scorchers like "Guitar Mafia" and "Vampire Nation" guarantee thrills. D Generation are genuinely sweet little rock & rollers. Were they to risk originality, they could be great. (RS 704)
