The group was driving on Interstate 5, just north of Sacramento,
the night before the show, the third gig of an 18-city tour, when
one of their three vans flipped over.
Six members of the crew were taken to area hospitals, while Coolio,
who only received minor cuts and bruises, and other injured
entourage members were treated on the scene. Coolio's drummer and
keyboard player suffered severe injuries.
"My keyboard player is only 15 and now has severe hand damage,"
Coolio said, in a statement. "I don't know when he will play
again."
Coolio has played two shows following the accident, in Los Angeles,
Calif. on June 6th and Phoenix, Ariz. On June 7th, but Coolio's
management has called the rest of the tour off. "This is the first
time in my career I have had a near-death experience," he said,
"When the van was flipping over I thought we were history." The
canceled tour dates are expected to be re-scheduled, with refunds
for the canceled shows available at the point of purchase. -
