At the moment,
in American psychedelia, San Francisco's Comets on Fire are the ultimate howl. Officially armed on their third album with second guitarist Ben Chasny, they are Pink Floyd's "Interstellar Overdrive" incarnate: whorls of guitar shriek descended from the Floyd's Syd Barrett and coated in Blue Cheer's hot-lava distortion. The Comets expand their mood vocabulary into campfire raga ("Wild Whiskey") and Quicksilver Messenger Service-style acid flamenco ("The Bee and the Cracking Egg"). But the aim remains the same: to blow your mind to tiny bits. Best of luck finding the pieces.
