Album Reviews
On this free mixtape, Clipse have a new talking point beyond the usual cocaine re-ups and Porsches: their fashion line, Play Cloths, which the mix is intended to promote. (It's also intended to generate buzz for the Virginia rap duo's forthcoming LP, Till the Casket Drops.) Shout-outs to the shmatte trade aside, much of Play Cloths proceeds like the group's other mixes, with Malice and Pusha T delving into the coke trade over jacked beats and doing riffs on other people's hits (this time Jim Jones' "Pop Champagne" and Ryan Leslie's "Addiction"). Best line on this placeholder: "Voted for Barack/McCain was my tax bracket, though." Here's hoping Clipse are saving their best stuff for the official Casket.
