The flip side of this master guitarist and blazing violinist's 1949 hit "Mary Is Fine" was called "My Time Is Expensive." His time is now priceless. Recently diagnosed with lung cancer, Brown, 80, has refused medical treatment, putting all of his fighting spirit into making records as sharp and fierce as Timeless. His music is a singular blur of bayou blues, big-band jump and Cajun hop, and he does it all here with focused fire. His fiddling in "For Now So Long" will leave burn marks, and the heat in his craggy voice lets you know, loud and clear: He won't go quietly.
