But Tubthumping? |
Chumbawamba's upbeat song about getting knocked down and getting back up again has captured the attention of Bob Dornan, a conservative candidate from California's 46th Congressional District, who features the song on his website, www.bobdornan.com.
While Dornan includes the popular single from the group's 10th album, it seems hard to believe this conservative politician shares the same views as the anarchist band.
"It would have been interesting if he asked us for permission for the use of the song because we would have told him to fuck off," Chumbawamba's Alice Nutter told JAMTV on Monday.
Dornan's website has an "issue index" where web surfers can access his views on topics ranging from abortion to AIDS. He is pro-life and said that abortions are contributing to other evils in the country. "By allowing abortion, we are indirectly promoting values that encourage crime, illegitimacy and the breakdown of the family," Dornan writes on the website.
Dornan also believes that all HIV-infected personnel in the military should be discharged. "HIV is the only disease that is behavior related and contracted primarily by activity that violates the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, such as engaging in sex with prostitutes or abusing drugs," he said.
Chumbawamba, on the other hand, wants to get rid of the military and the government entirely. "This [the band] is a collection of eight people who are opposed to formal government and who believe in equal rights for everyone," Ellen Zoe Golden, the band's spokeswoman, told JAMTV.
Nutter added that the band is retaliating against Dornan by
implanting a virus in the download version of "Tubthumping;" the
band also plans to use Dornan's voice to promote its left-wing
ideas in the future. (Peter Photikoe)
