As previously reported by JAMTV, the eight-member British dance-rock group was in Washington, D.C. on Thursday to perform a free afternoon concert on the roof of a parking structure.
The event ended up drawing more than 1,000 eager fans who crammed nearby streets. After playing only four songs, local police ordered the band to shut down. The police claimed the show's organizers, WHFS-FM, did not file the proper permits. Following complaints from the disappointed crowd, police allowed the group to play one last song, their hit single "Tubthumping," before clearing the streets.
Chumbawumba's U.S. tour continued without any problems from
local authorities that night with a sold-out performance at the
