Album Reviews
A limber, inventive upright-bass player, Christian McBride is a gifted bandleader to boot. On "The Wizard of Montara," he provides a steady backbone while the rest of his able crew shimmies and jams with abandon. "Lejos de Usted" quietly shimmers as McBride's bass converses with Geoffrey Keezer's piano. Best of all is "Technicolor Nightmare," which displays the sonic diversity and challenge McBride is known for, turning an avant-jazz lesson into a furious black-rock workout.
