This legendary live recording is classic Mingus -- in the fighting swing of his band, the bitter topicality of his compositions and his irascible showmanship. At one point he dismisses some players from the stage for blowing cues. Mingus also blows off steam with a short set of bop and New Orleans classicism, showing off the tradition that fueled his avenging modernism.
