As previously reported by JAMTV, Gavin Rossdale spent much of the winter and early spring holed up in a house on the coast of Ireland writing new material. He has written a total of 19 songs and is ready to get together with his bandmates, who've been relaxing since the completion of Bush's extensive 1997 tour.
Bush will gather at a London rehearsal hall in May, according to a spokesman for the band. They will spend two months working out the material and deciding which songs to include on the album before heading into a London recording studio in July.
The band will hold off on choosing a producer for this project until they've had a chance to play together. In the past, Bush recorded many of their songs while on tour. This time around, they're taking their time. Their spokesman said the music ranges from lovely ballads to intense rock, and is some of the best material he's heard Rossdale produce. "Lyrically it's deeper and the sound is broader," he said.
Their spokesman was reluctant to elaborate further since some of the songs may not appear on the album in their current form, and because Rossdale may write a few more tunes.
The album isn't expected to reach record stores until 1999.
In related news, Rossdale recently spent 10 days in Los Angeles
with his girlfriend, No Doubt singer Gwen
Stefani. According to Bush's spokesman, the relationship
is as good as ever, but he is unaware of any plans the two may have
to marry. (Ari Bendersky)
