Last year' s Seeger Sessions was cut in just three days with a twelve-piece band that hadn't played together before. This Dublin stop, taped at the tail end of a seven-month tour, finds Bruce and the band going at the same material with a raw gusto that connects American traditions: mountain string bands, whorehouse Dixieland jazz, juke-joint rockabilly, Western swing and E Street soul. Across two CDs drawn from three concerts, Springsteen rips up old folk songs and revises nine slices of his back catalog – "Blinded by the Light" is yoked to Gypsy violin (strange, not wondrous); "Highway Patrolman" is fleshed out as a country weeper (fantastic, maybe definitive). At home, the Sessions Band had trouble selling out Asbury Park. Overseas, they were greeted as heroes, and this is the proof of their heroism.

Bruce Springsteen you hear today is not the same you heard in 1975. Why do I say this? First, that Springsteen would never have done a greatest hit album (I know this for a fact, because he said that artist that have nothing new to say come out with a greatest hit album) and that Springsteen would never have done a live album...let alone, one live album after another. My soul aches for the Springsteen that did "The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle" the genius of that album is more than I can write here...I'd die to hear Springsteen in the same spirit as Darkness or even Nebraska (sorry, Ghost of Tom doesn't even come close with only two songs that are listenable on the whole CD)...even though Tunnle of Love isn't his best, I'd love to hear that Springsteen come back. No, Springsteen is dead. I don't know who this man is that is wearing his skin, but he ain't no Springsteen mister...no, he ain't no Springsteen. Maybe when he ran out of stories to tell at his concerts, he also ran out of songs that really meant anything...and I morn his death

An Artist in the style of Neil Young that is not content with being locked into one style that proved successful (Greetings, Born to Run/USA, Darkness) and continues to mature (Nebraska,River,Tunnel) and still grows to higher achievments (Ghost, Devil, The Rising).
Seeger Sessions endeavors are another great achievment in a great career!

Few careers have tacked as much as mr Springsteens. I
remember when I first heard his music at a concert at
American University in 1974 the Washington post was making
the comparisons to Mr Dylan. Now he has joined the ranks of
Neil Young and Bob Dylan as artists who are enthusiastic
about trying new styles of music. "Atlantic City", "Open All
Night", and "Blinded By The Light" have all been given truly
new treatments and energy. The transformation reminds me
of when Bob Dylan made his Live at the Budakhan.I saw that
tour and did not recognize songs that I had known for twenty
years! Bruce Springsteen really loves making music and it
shows in this great concert recording.

I saw the movie on a theatre screen the night before the CD/DVD release and thought it was solid with some reservations.

The crowd was pretty much non-exsistent in the film except for the faint sound of the applause and a very few audience shots. The Dublin Springsteen fans were obviously enthralled and it would have been nice if it was part of the film. I'm also surprised that some great material did not make it on to the film, like the crowd favorite, 'Pay Me Your Money."

Overall it's an excellent package and I find myself missing this chapter already. In an age where Springsteen's peers get up there and croon their greatest hits for 45-minutes at $250 a ticket and sit in their castles the rest of the year, Springsteen is still growing and stretching. I discovered him in 1974 and I have to honestly say that in this age of super-boxes, American Idol and trust fund babies cranking out soul-less crap, Springsteen is the last act that I can say I am still a fan of.

I am really surprised that this set only sold 30,000 units the first week. Great music like this really deserves to be heard.

THIS IS A CONCERT THAT MUST BE SEEN AS WELL AS HEARD!!! If you don't buy the DVD/CD combo (or just the DVD) you are REALLY missing out on a fantastic performence. The CD alone just doesn't pack the punch the DVD has. Once you start to watch it, you can't turn it off! Do yourself a favor, buy the deluxe DVD/CD combo. You will not be disappointed. It's awesome!!!
