Album Reviews
For over three decades, Canadian troubadour Bruce Cockburn has consistently crafted clever songs, rife with political and social commentary, and his native country loves him for it. Cockburn's latest album, You've Never Seen Everything, is no exception. On "Postcards From Cambodia," Cockburn details in spoken word over chimes and a melancholy guitar the domino effect caused by oppression. But Cockburn's worldview isn't so dark that he can't see the sun; on the mellow, melodic "Don't Forget About Delight" and "Messenger," he offers smooth, hope-filled vocals. Even if the American mainstream isn't familiar with Cockburn, a few notable Americans talents are, as Emmylou Harris and Jackson Browne lend backup vocals to this album of poignant, globally conscious songs.
