Bright Eyes leader Conor Oberst was a prolific songwriter back before he could shave, and he kept up that pace while turning into the poet laureate of Heartbreak Nation and a sex symbol for nice girls who dreamt of mothering him. The unfortunately front-loaded Noise Floor is sixteen tracks' worth of compilation cuts, singles, seven-inches and unreleased material: rambling acoustic songs, unwieldy noise experiments and homespun rock, with warbled beauty and choruses that tumble out and curl up on your lap. Several of these match Oberst's best work. "Trees Get Wheeled Away" is a perfect emo-country song with a triumphant, confused chorus that begins, "There's a virgin in my bed." Even Oberst's woodshedding stuff is pretty good: 1999's undercooked, agonized "The Vanishing Act" sounds like it could be beefed up into a gem.

If you have a heart somewhere in you, you will love this album. I am sick of what I hear on the radio. This is the gem. Why do I own 13 Bright Eyes CDs?

Listen.

simply stunning. bright eyes is truely the definiative voice of our generation, summing up every heart twang and life lesson with his warbling, fragile voice and shiver-inducing lyrics. every line of his songs are heart-felt poetry. please, if you are reading this and indecisive about whether to buy or not, do NOT hesitate. buy it. it'll be the forging of a life-long love affair and the most productive thing you can do with the money. buy this album for simple self-nourishment!!

This is Birght Eyes. Half the songs are repeats from other albums but these "repeats" are his best songs. As for the other half, most are raw, lyrically brilliant, classic Bright Eyes style. Such a distinct voice and original arrangement of words. Lyrics so good I often find them in my away messages and scrawled across my bedroom walls. Depressing;yes. Beautiful in a distinct way;yes. Takes a few listens;yes. Original artist sticking to his own ways of making music and not changing himself to fit normal mainstream ways;yes. Recommended for the Indie/Bright Eyes lovers. Want to know what Bright Eyes is all about by listening to his best stuff? Listen to "Lover I Don't Have to Love" "Movement of a Hand" "Sunrise, Sunset" and "A Perfect Sonet"...then buy this.
