Elton to Honor Brian Wilson

Wilson to play "Pet Sounds" at Radio City tribute

Posted Mar 05, 2001 12:00 AM

TNT's "All Star Tribute to Brian Wilson" at Radio City Music Hall will not only feature a performance by the former Beach Boy, but by Elton John, Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson and Beatles producer George Martin. Melissa Etheridge is also expected to join the lineup, according to a source close to the artist.

Wilson's appearance on the bill will be longer than first thought, as he will include a rendition of the Beach Boy's classic Pet Sounds album in it's entirety, accompanied by the Radio City Music Hall orchestra. He performed the album -- cited by many, including John and Paul McCartney, as the greatest pop album ever recorded -- live for the first time during a 2000 year with a fifty-five-piece orchestra.

While the show is not yet on TNT's schedule, the date is penciled in for June. The cable channel kicked off its series of musical tributes in 1998 with "Burt Bacharach : One Amazing Night," and has since featured events honoring Johnny Cash, Bob Marley and Joni Mitchell. A limited number of tickets will be sold to American Express Gold cardholders on March 8th, with sales available to the general public via TicketMaster beginning on March 12th.
