Brad Mehldau has been releasing albums of moody, elegant jazz piano since 1994, but his latest, Largo, has a secret weapon: rock songs. The album features interpretations of Radiohead's "Paranoid Android" and the Beatles' "Dear Prudence." How'd he pick the songs? "With 'Paranoid Android,' it was the last part -- that almost religious, choral kind of thing," he says. "A lot of times it's trial and error. The other day I pulled out Dark Side of the Moon. I tried to do something with 'Brain Damage.' It has a fun, simple melody, it's easy to play. But there wasn't much to do with it after that.
