Album Reviews
Celestial guitars and excitable choirboy vocals, "More Than a Feeling" was radio heaven, a nifty fusion of "Louie Louie" spunk and semiclassical kitsch. Boston's finest moment, it blueprinted a sound that sold millions, even while nail-biting perfectionist Tom Scholz, the band's genius manqué, fretted in and out of retirement. Fronting a team of vocalists doing their damnedest to be Steve Perry, Scholz is back with predictably expert product. The album's bulk crafty, antique arena rock and flick-yer-Bic ballads is drolly entertaining, but with a 12-minute "Walk On Medley," Scholz's ambition backfires flash guitar boogie and Keith Emerson wanna-be organ frenzy do not a major statement make.
