Bo Bice joins Idols for Katrina benefit, Black Crowes send aid from Memphis

BO BICE will rejoin the American Idols Live tour when it plays its Hurricane Katrina benefit show on Sunday in Syracuse, New York. The rocker will perform the song he was inspired to write after the hurricane hit called "We Can't Change This World." Bice left the tour after having emergency intestinal surgery on August 18th . . . The BLACK CROWES will donate the proceeds from their October 7th show in Memphis to Katrina victims. The band is also encouraging fans attending the show to donate canned food and clothing . . . MADONNA, LITTLE RICHARD, ALANIS MORISSETTE, the BRAVERY, IGGY POP and an animated version of the late rapper NOTORIOUS B.I.G. are featured in the commercial for the new Motorola ROKR, the first mobile phone with iTunes. The month-long campaign debuted on September 8th . . . JOHN FOGERTY has returned to Fantasy Records, the label he recorded for while a member of CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. The revitalized label will release The Long Road Home -- a compilation of Creedence hits, classic Fogerty solo tracks and four new songs -- on November 1st . . . BONNIE RAITT and AARON NEVILLE will appear in the documentary Make It Funky, which pays homage to the music of New Orleans. The film will premiere at Hollywood's Grauman's Chinese Theater this weekend . . . STAIND will take on their fans in the latest Xbox Live "Game With Fame" session. The rockers will compete with fans under the tag "Staindlive" as they play the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 EA sports video game on September 10th . . .

MEATLOAF, who was forced to cancel his upcoming show in Biloxi, Mississippi, will donate all the proceeds from his September 17th Savannah, Georgia, stop to Katrina relief . . . JUNE POINTER WHITMORE, the youngest POINTER SISTER, pled guilty to a drug possession charge on September 7th and was ordered into a rehabilitation program for eighteen months. Whitmore was booted from the R&B group five years ago due to her ongoing substance abuse troubles . . . The SPIN DOCTORS will play their first headlining show with all original members in three years at New York's B.B. King Blues Club on September 9th. The show will precede the release of the band's new album, Nice Talking to Me, due September 13th . . . The ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND will launch their North American tour on September 13th in York, Pennsylvania, and will wrap it October 2nd in Charlotte, North Carolina . . . GRETCHEN WILSON will join BIG AND RICH and COWBOY TROY, when they hit the road November 4th in Woodlands, Texas . . . SWITCHFOOT will perform a free concert on September 10th in Santa Monica, California, where their nonprofit organization Lowercase People will collect donations for the Salvation Army to help victims of Hurricane Katrina . . . COHEED AND CAMBRIA have added dates to their tour, which kicks off September 17th in New York. The new dates will begin with a show in Anaheim, California, on October 17th and will continue through November 17th when the prog-rockers return to New York . . .

FIONA APPLE will join JOHN MAYER, NEIL YOUNG, the ROLLING STONES, KANYE WEST, KELLY CLARKSON, SHERYL CROW, KID ROCK, PAUL MCCARTNEY, MOTLEY CRUE, BRIAN WILSON, GOO GOO DOLLS, AUDIOSLAVE, MAROON 5, COMMON, SIMPLE PLAN and LYNYRD SKYNYRD perform on MTV's ReAct Now: Music and Relief Hurricane Katrina Relief benefit concert, airing live September 10th on MTV, VH1, MTV2, MTVu, VH1 Classic and CMT. Proceeds from the show will go to the American Red Cross and other relief organizations . . . The ROLLING STONES are donating $1 million from their A Bigger Bang Tour to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for Hurricane Katrina victims . . . DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE have announced a special concert to benefit hurricane victims in their hometown of Seattle on September 21st . . . PAUL McCARTNEY will release the Chaos and Creation in the Backyard special edition CD/DVD set on September 13th. The DVD features footage of McCartney writing and recording his twentieth studio album and includes special performances of album tracks like "Fine Line" and "How Kind of You" . . . In other McCartney news, the singer-songwriter signed up to be the face of a new ad for Fidelity Investments, which manages more than $1 trillion in funds. The "This Is Paul" ad will air in the U.S. later this month . . . GOOD CHARLOTTE's JOEL MADDEN, HILARY DUFF, actor Ron Livingston and professional poker player Annie Duke will participate in the charity auction and celebrity poker tournament being held at BETonSPORTS annual NFL party on September 9th. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Hurricane Katrina Relief fund . . .

MELISSA ETHERIDGE will produce and host the Lifetime network's breast-cancer awareness special, WomenRock Our Journey with Melissa Etheridge. The show, which will be taped in Los Angeles on September 29th, will air October 18th as part of the network's Our Lifetime Commitment: Stop Breast Cancer for Life campaign . . . BILLY JOEL has launched a music education initiative called the Billy Joel Endowment Fund, which will provide scholarships, endowments and seed money to colleges, universities and music schools along the East Coast . . . GALACTIC will launch their Ten Year Invasion tour in celebration of the band's tenth anniversary on October 26th in Crystal Bay, Nevada. The jaunt wraps up on November 19th in Washington D.C. . . . PITBULL will release the CD/DVD MONEY IS STILL A MAJOR ISSUE, a compilation with several remixes featuring LIL WAYNE, LIL FLIP and BEENIE MAN. The album will also feature unreleased songs like "Jungle Fever" with WYCLEF JEAN and "Everybody Get Up" featuring PRETTIE RICKIE. Pitbull's second album Mariel, with appearances by DIDDY, LIL JON, T.I., TWISTA and TEGA CALDERONE, will hit stores early 2006 . . . BURNING SPEAR will release Our Music on September 20th. The reggae legend will hit the road in support of the new album on September 9th in Philadelphia . . . DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL will play three benefit concerts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on September 18th in Toronto, the 19th in Chicago and the 28th in Sayreville, New Jersey . . . LOS LOBOS' DAVID HIDALGO and GENE TAYLOR of the FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS guest on veteran Los Angeles roots rocker CARLOS GUITARLOS' new album, Hell Can Wait, due September 13th . . .

SEAN "DIDDY" COMBS outfitted a library at New York's Junior High 117 with furniture, fixtures and books. This is one of three area public schools he's aided . . . DURAN DURAN will release their first live concert DVD, Live in London, on October 25th. The set features the five original members performing their hits "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Wild Boys" and "Rio" . . . ROD STEWART was ordered to pay the Rio Hotel Casino $2 million plus interest on September 7th for a canceled show in December 2000. The veteran rocker was not present in court when the verdict was reached but has maintained that he was unable to perform the show due to throat surgery several months earlier and would have been willing to make up the canceled performances . . . The BLACK CROWES have added the final leg of their North American headlining dates for the year after touring with TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS. The band will kick off the trek on September 16th in Telluride, Colorado, with dates running through October 31st in Chicago . . . The American Idols Live tour has added an extra show to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Season 4 Idols will now play in Syracuse, New York on September 11th, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross . . . DAVE MATTHEWS BAND collected donations for the Houston Food Bank at their Labor Day show in Houston. The band also donated a portion of the proceeds of the show to the food bank . . . The mother and aunt of the late TUPAC SHAKUR will volunteer and attempt to lift the spirits of the victims of Hurricane Katrina that are currently taking shelter at Houston's Astrodome this Thursday . . .

DOVES are playing a free acoustic show at New York City's Apple Store on September 15th . . . STAIND canceled their European tour dates due to U.S. promotional commitments. The shows will be rescheduled for March 2006 . . . VINCE GILL will hit the road with JON RANDALL opening on September 30th in Newport News, Virginia, wrapping up November 21st in Danville, Kentucky. Randall will release Walking Among the Living on September 20th . . . SUGE KNIGHT was released from Miami's Mount Sinai Medical Center late last week after being treated for a gunshot wound in his leg. The music mogul was shot at a party hosted by KANYE WEST before the MTV Video Music Awards . . . AEROSMITH will release Rockin' the Joint, a live CD/DVD set, on October 25th. The set features songs performed during a rare club show at Las Vegas' the Joint on January 11, 2002, including six tracks from the band's classic 1975 album, Toys in the Attic . . . Live versions of VAN MORRISON's "They Sold Me Out," "Evening Train" and "The Lion This Time" are now available on his official Web site . . . NELLIE McKAY's second album, Pretty Little Head, originally due October 18th, has been pushed back to January . . . MICHAEL FRANTI AND SPEARHEAD's ten-song concert DVD, Live in Sydney, is due November 15th . . . Controversial hip-hop/rockers the BLOODHOUND GANG will release Hefty Fine on September 27th . . . The CLIENTELE will hit the road on October 23rd in Toronto in support of their new album, Strange Geometry, due October 11th . . .

ELTON JOHN will be busy for the next few years. The singer/pianist will release Elton's Christmas Party, featuring previously released holiday songs from other artist as well as a new duet with JOSS STONE, exclusively through Starbucks on November 8th. The Rocket Man is also teaming up with his songwriting partner BERNIE TAUPIN for Captain Fantastic and the Kid, the sequel to 1975's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, which is due in March of 2007. In the meantime, John has a sitcom in the works, which he is calling Him and Us, about the entourage surrounding a rock star based on a composite of himself, MICK JAGGER, DAVID BOWIE and ROD STEWART . . . The DAVE MATTHEWS BAND track "Stand Up (For It)" will headline the in-game music soundtrack for the EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour '06 video game, due September 20th. THIEVERY CORPORATION will also appear on the soundtrack along with Los Angeles electronic pop duo SUPREME BEINGS OF LEISURE, DAVID HOLMES and the Washington, D.C.-based duo THUNDERBALL . . . MACY GRAY spent September 3rd handing out clothes and toiletries to 18,500 survivors of Hurricane Katrina housed in Houston's Astrodome. The Grammy-winning singer was able to lift some of the Astrodome occupants' spirits while volunteering her time . . . New Orleans natives HARRY CONNICK JR. and BRANFORD MARSALIS have agreed to be honorary chairs for Habitat for Humanity's "Operation Home Delivery," a long-term rebuilding plan for Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast . . .

SIMPLE PLAN will release an enhanced version of their first live album, MTV Hard Rock Live, on October 4th. The album, recorded earlier this year in Orlando, Florida, will include live versions of the pop punk band's hits "Addicted," "Welcome to My Life" and "Untitled (How Could This Happen to Me)" . . . TRACY CHAPMAN will launch the Where You Live tour on October 5th in Seattle . . . Mississippi natives 3 DOORS DOWN have created a public service announcement on their Web site providing information on how to contact more than twenty relief organizations . . . Cover band CAMP FREDDY -- with JANE'S ADDICTION's DAVE NAVARRO and CHRIS CHANEY, and VELVET REVOLVER's MATT SORUM and DONOVAN LEITCH -- will perform a charity show to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina on September 29th at West Hollywood's Key Club . . . CEE-LO and producer JAZZE PHA (CIARA, MISSY) will release the collaborative album, Happy Hour, in November . . . Pop-rocker HOPE PARTLOW will hit the road on the Wal-Mart tour, beginning September 13th in Atlanta, wrapping October 9th in Columbus, Georgia . . . BIF NAKED's Superbeautifulmonster cover art has been deemed too provocative and advertisements for the album, which drops September 20th, has been banned from high schools across the country . . .
