Bobby Valentino's game is comically transparent yet undeniably smooth. On his debut -- the first R&B album on Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace imprint -- Valentino's honeyed croon and hilarious pickup lines ("I just wanna make sure that you are never lonely") practically ooze all over the tracks. The beats on Valentino have just enough crunk to bring some bump-and-grind to the slow dance: The simple snare tracks, layered with soft guitar, strings and flute, lend undeniable atmosphere to Valentino's come-ons. "Slow down," he sings to a woman in front of him, on the single of that name, "but don't turn around/'Cause that pretty round thing looks good to me." Still, he sounds sincere on "Want You to Know Me," when he vows to ditch his playa ways for love. Here, as on the rest of the album, Valentino portrays the lovable lothario, an R&B singer you can take home to the family. Just hope your sister isn't his type.
