Police arrested Gerard Woodley in the Bronx on Thursday, May 13, for fatal shooting of Big L, charging him with second-degree murder|. At the time of his death, L had two brothers in prison. "It's a good possibility it was retaliation for something [Big L's] brother did, or [Woodley] believed he had done," said Lt. Ellen Caniglia, spokesperson for the NYPD. Woodley has been arrested on two prior murder charges, once in 1990 and again in 1996, but wasn't convicted either time. Woodley is also wanted on a federal warrant for drug trafficking, said Caniglia, adding that he is the only suspect in the case, which police now consider closed. Woodley is currently being held without bail. Big L's crew, Diggin' in the Crates, is scheduled to release their collective full-length debut, tentatively titled All Luv, on Tommy Boy Records this summer.- Werner
