Fire Destroys Q-Tip's Home Studio

Posted Feb 10, 1998 12:00 AM

A fire in the New Jersey home of rapper Q-Tip destroyed the Tribe Called Quest star's home studio as well as a collection of unreleased original songs.

The fire broke out in Q-Tip's basement recording studio while the rapper, whose real name is Kamaal Fareed, was at home. Although Q-Tip and his roommate, Khalil Moses, escaped without injury, Q-Tip lost his personal record collection as well as a catalog of original recordings housed on his computer, according to the Associated Press.

Tribe's new album, The Love Movement, was not destroyed in the fire. The album is set to come out in May, according to a spokeswoman at Jive Records.
