Against Me!'s third full-length album is a bizarro combination of Who's Next, an angry oi-punk record and some dude's blog. Former folkie Tom Gabel disses the secretary of state and yaks about his friends while his Gainesville, Florida, mates rock with three-chord abandon and help out vocally on the big-ass choruses. Gabel's songs are both wordier and funnier than most rant-based punk: "From Her Lips to God's Ears (The Energizer)" features a strenuous call-and-response chorus that goes, "Condoleezza! What are we gonna do now?" and the barnburner "Holy Shit!" is a detailed critique of a stagnating rock scene. Over fourteen cuts, Gabel's Roger Daltrey bellow can grow wearisome, but on the acoustic confessional "How Low" Gabel slows the tempo and documents his efforts to give up drugs, proving that you can't get this deep into other people's shit without getting a little on yourself.
